Adalicia Lefevre. Coffe Table. December 05th, 2017.
With todays continual focus on interior design, coffee tables continue to play a focal point in the world of furniture. Many of todays furniture come in a wide range of designs, ranging from the more traditional styles, with a antiquity effect, to a more unique design, with a more modernist feel as well as many including storage. This wide range of coffee tables has meant that todays items are made from a wide range of materials.
As with glass, much of the modern styled furniture uses a great deal of metal, with many of the glass tables having metal features, as opposite to wooden characteristics. Many of the metals used include steel and chrome, both of which come brushed and polished. Moreover, many of metal aspects of coffee tables are often available with different pigmentations, such as black or red. Much of the metals are sourced from both the UK and abroad.
Style & Colour, There are many styles available from very modern, to traditional styles, look for something that complements the room and other furnishings, and a classic glass top will generally be quite safe for those who are unsure. In terms of material, timber works well if you have small timber elements in the rooms, it helps to tie the room together. If you have a large amount of timber already though it can become overwhelmingly "matchy-matchy" easily if you select a matching coffee table, break it up with glass with timber legs, or a complimentary timber accessory on top of a poly or glass table. The modern polyurethane options are often suited to buying all one colour; they then form the background for the accessories such as the rug, flowers or prints in the room. If you want to create a beautiful arty display on top look for a simpler style that wont compete, if you are not so confident with creating bold displays, select more of a statement piece that can become the talking point, a bolder design will ensure your guests dont think youre boring!
Another thing to keep in mind when choosing a coffee table is the cost. Think about your habits and how you use your table. Do you like to sit on the sofa with your legs up on the table? Then you will need a square ottoman style table. You need space for storing magazines or other such pieces? You need a table with several drawers or shelves or you can go for one looking like a bottom drawer. Your living room is the meeting place of friends? You need a large table so you can fit lots glasses or cups on it. You want a big meal, but not always have enough space? Choose a "nest" of tables, meaning three tables of different sizes that can be used separately, but can be tidied away beneath one and other.
